Job Summary
The Team
The Air Quality Unit is a dedicated team of five staff members and a unit head, combining long-standing expertise with fresh perspectives. We are passionate about protecting air quality in British Columbia and beyond, developing and supporting policies and standards with local, provincial, and national impact. The Role
As an Air Quality Science Specialist, you will play a critical role in understanding the causes of poor air quality and developing innovative solutions to address them. You’ll help create policies, programs, and standards that improve air quality across British Columbia, directly impacting the health and well-being of its residents. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on diverse and challenging issues, collaborating with government partners, First Nations, industry, and the public. Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements

Must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, with the BC Institute of Agrologists (BCIA) as a Professional Agrologist (PAg), or with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC) as a fully licensed Engineer. Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the BC association within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made.
A master’s degree or PhD in atmospheric science, physics, chemistry, or other physical science, meteorology, public health, environmental health, air pollution control or a closely related field plus 3 or more years directly related experience; OR
An undergraduate degree in atmospheric science, physics, chemistry, or other physical science, meteorology, public health, environmental health, air pollution control or a closely related field plus 5 or more years directly related experience.
Related Experience Must Include:

Minimum of three (3) years (with graduate degree) or five (5) years (with bachelor’s degree) of experience in air pollution science, air pollution management, air pollution meteorology, atmospheric chemistry, health effects of air pollution, air pollution measurement, or related work.
Experience in air quality standard setting and/or policy development and/or policy implementation for environmental protection or resource management in a government or corporate setting.
Four (4) years experience managing complex projects.
Experience developing and maintaining relationships and partnerships (such as clients, NGO’s or federal, provincial or local government).
Preference may be given to applicants with:

Experience developing, interpreting and/or applying environmental protection legislation or regulations.
Experience in public consultation processes dealing with environmental management issues.
Experience leading project working groups/committees within government or with external partners.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 5 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This position can be based in a Natural Resource Sector office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
